Making STEM Relevant For A 21st Century World
The STARBASE program was created to allow fifth grade students to explore the worlds of science, technology, engineering, and math. At Barksdale AFB, over 2,200 students each year experience challenges designed to provide foundational skills in STEM and generate interest in pursuing these fields in future careers.
Extending the baseline program’s mission, 2.0 is designed to give students with an increased interest in STEM the opportunity to participate in deeper, long-term projects in either an after-school or in-school setting. Our 6th-8th grade students utilize drones, aero gliders, and CO2 cars. Our 9th-12th grade students participate in the national rocketry program The American Rocketry Challenge (TARC).
